Mesothelioma disease
I am publishing this mesothelioma article today, on September 11th 2008, seven years later after the tragedy that happend in New York when hundreds of innocent people died... The number of victims currently stands at 3,000, but there are people who were participating in rescue process and most of them are now facing huge medical issues.
One of these problems is mesothelioma. The mesothelioma disease is generally rare, and when individuals suffer from this type of disease, in most cases it is a fatal form of cancer. This type of cancer is caused by exposure to asbestos, and unfortunately it does not require a length exposure to contract this deadly disease. Because of the fact that it normally takes years to even be noticed, the diagnosis can often be very difficult. Most generally, this disease affects the layer of a person's body that is called the mesothelium, and it can develop within the lining of the abdominal cavity or in the chest of individuals suffering with this disease. Then, the mesothelium cell will begin to divide, which can lead to the disease mesothelioma. In cases where these cells continuously divide and begin to multiply, it can then be spread to other areas of the body. Just as with any other form of cancer, there can also be benign cases of this type of cancer. Unfortunately, individuals who are exposed to asbestos for just one or two months can be at mesothelioma risk.
Mesothelioma symptoms
Mesothelioma types
There are three different mesothelioma types that each affect different areas of the body. Plural mesothelioma is the most common for of this type of cancer, and with this type, the coverings of the lungs become damaged.
Then there is peritoneal mesothelioma, which affects the covering on the adbomianl orgrans.
The third form of this type of cancer is pericardial mesothelioma, and it can damage the covering of the heart.
Mesothelioma treatment options
Because of the fact that the symptoms of mesothelioma lung cancer can remain latent for many years, the detection of this disease can be very difficult. For the detection and treatment of this disease, it is important for individuals to seek the services of a professional mesothelioma doctor. There are several mesothelioma doctors that specialize in this form of cancer. Depending on what mesothelioma stage the patient is at, there are a variety of treatment options that are available, and they include mesothelioma chemotherapy, mesothelioma radiation, and surgery. Although there is no cure at this time, constant research and studies are being done for a mesothelioma cure.

Thanks for a very informative hub on a terrible dissease. When I was a child in the '50s asbestos was widely used in insulating cellars, pipes etc. and then they found out how dangerous it was--anybody who worked around it was at risk of mesothelioma and other cancers. It never occured to me that the dangers that all those volunteers at ground zero faced--and at the time, I suppose it didn't occur to them either. This is a good reminder.
